Steps to fix “503 Valid RCPT command must precede DATA”

  1. In Outlook, click File
  2. Click Account Settings > Account Settings
  3. Select your email account.
  4. Click Change
  5. Click More Setting
  6. Select the Outgoing Server tab
  7. Check My outgoing server (SMTP) requires authentication
  8. Select the Advanced tab
  9. Change Outgoing server (SMTP) to 465
  10. Set Use the following type of encrypted connection to SSL
  11. Click OK
  12. Click Next
